MCL-UK can advise on establishing a rescue plan that encompasses training and rescue equipment package. It is essential that there is a specific rescue plan and resources in place for each worksite and that there are regularly assessed and updated where necessary. Resources should include not only equipment but also trained personnel. The main priority for rescuers is to take a casualty to a position where expert medical help can take over.
Work at height should never be undertaken without first having identified rescue plan as part of the risk assessment procedure. The rescue plan should be discussed with all team members so that everyone is clear as to their role in the event of a rescue scenario. Emergency services cannot always be relied on as not all have rope rescue capability and, depending on location and the nature of the injuries, may not be quick enough.
